Film Program 5: Cosmic Souls - w/ Colectivo Los Ingrávidos
Curated by Aileen Ye

Colectivo Los Ingrávidos was founded in Tehuacán, Mexico in 2012 to challenge the commercialisation of audiovisuals and conventional television and cinema production.
Los Ingrávidos arose as a resistance movement amid major protests against the Mexican government, reporting through an anonymous YouTube channel for fear of retaliation.

To work collaboratively is a political decision to deconstruct the artist-centred neoliberal order. Los Ingrávidos’ work must be understood in light of their collective roots and decentralized approach to content and form. Their radical visual sound experiments in film capture the urgency and energy of direct political action, thereby presenting a common critical space.

À quelle distance tombe la foudre – Aurélie Percevault, FR, 3', 16mm, silence, 2020

"Darkness is made when light flickers." (Derek Jarman quoting Aristotle, in Chroma - A Color Book). Contemplating the danger, we hear it approaching.

1)
Tierra en Trance – Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, MX, 38’, 2022

These are the dancing bodies in agitated rapture: a prelude to trance, invocation of the gods, consecration of intermittence. Mesoamerican wind, goddess breath, breeze of sticks, percussive woods. Here are the sounds and rumbles of Teponaztli, a Mesoamerican percussive instrument. Kinetic and audiovisual serialism from the embers of the Earth. This is the entranced Earth.

2)
El Nido del Sol – Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, MX, 5' 14, 2021

In the nest of the sun, Xolotl, Huitzilin and Xochitl meet to recover the dance of radiation, whose colorful heat stirs the new fire of their cosmic dance. Part of the Film Tonalli.
