Marta Hryniu

Marta Hryniuk is a Polish artist living in Rotterdam. Looking through the lenses of experimental film and expanded cinema, her work examines gestures and places, people and communities; with a particular attention to historiography - the way the histories of these places and people are shaped. Her camera privileges the small events, the quotidian moments in these histories, complicating them where possible and resisting linear timelines. She is particularly interested in the myriad narratives around the former communist countries of central and eastern Europe, and their diasporas, asking what can be salvaged from these failed projects, and how their legacies shape people’s intersubjective experiences in the present.
